The Origins of Wailapa

"Wailapa" means "water on the ridge." Most likely the derivation of the name is from the fact that there were artesian springs in the area in ancient times. The farm is located in the Southern part of the Kona Coffee Belt. Geographically, it is in a "cup" formed by the pali behind it which traps the moisture laden afternoon ocean breeze. This provides more afternoon cloud cover and rainfall than farms less than a mile away. These and other factors combine to be ideal conditions for the trees. The farm has been in cultivation for more than 40 years and is managed in the traditional Kona style. The farm has been certified organic for many years. Wailapa is the only farm to win the annual Gevelia coffee cupping competition twice.

On a personal note, my background is in the medical field, however I have been a coffee farmer for 5 years now and carefully control every step of the process personally. The quality of the coffee is based upon a long history of excellence and an intense desire to please each customer. Thanks for your interest in Wailapa Farms.
